In a recent talk I described the need to increase the amount of design material in our computer science curricula. The rationale was based in part on an analysis of the Bloom hierarchy, which showed that all but the first level of education are related to design. Yet most university curricula lack explicit treatment of design in their curricula. Furthermore, I reasoned that university curricula in fact could not teach design, because of the close relationship between design and domain expertise. This led to my advocating an apprenticeship model that married academia and industry. In this workshop, we are addressing the question of computer-aided training.
