Comprehensive End-to-End Reliability Assessment of Optical Network Transports
17 March 2002
A comprehensive approach and a hybrid simulation and analytical technique were developed to assess the impacts of various network elements and various protection schemes (such as 1+1, 1:N and shared protection with mesh restoration) on the end-to-end network reliability. This approach provides a comprehensive outage profile of the network from an end-to-end reliability perspective and allows the impacts of the outage of various elements and protection schemes to be quantified. This technique is demonstrated on the design of two completely different networks with various protection schemes.
