The World Wide Web revolutionized the use of the Internet and brought us into the information age. It began with websites that were maintained and read by people. Automated search engines were built to index these websites. Specifically, the speed and accuracy of search results provided by Google revolutionized the use of the web and people began using the web as their primary source of information. Static websites gave way to dynamic ones. Electronic web services began developing and businesses created e-commerce sites so that people could make use of services on directly through the Web. From there, the web evolved to a space where users can generate and store content such as photos and videos and tag and search for them with keywords. As users pushed personal content on the Internet, the concept of cloud computing was brought forth whereby applications can be run and maintained on a public Internet and users were able to store personal data within the cloud. Social networking has also taken off as another common form of communication where people have friend lists and can automatically share their information with one another. All these advances are working towards personalization. Users have personal accounts on different web services and can access their private content or share it with others. However, as more applications begin developing, it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage this content online. PeCMan, the Personal Content Manager, was developed for this end.
