Controlling 'quality' in a broadcasting system
01 July 1928
Measurements of the quality of transmission were made by the author on the Kalundborg broadcasting station. Each component part from the studio, via the land line, to the actual radiation from the antenna was tested by standard transmission measuring sets, details of which and the circuits in which they are used are given. In every measurement of "gain" (amplification) or "loss" (attenuation) care was taken to ensure that each component part of the circuit was terminated at each end by the correct impedance, in this case resistances of 600 ohms. Under no other conditions is it permissible to add the individual response curves (plotted on the decibel or T.U. logarithmic scale) in order to obtain the overall response.
