Design and Engineering Guidelines for Effective Network Planning
17 September 1986
This presentation describes some of the technologies advances which have altered the way in which modern SPC networks are planned and implemented, and discusses guidelines, techniques, and planning tools which make it possible for telecommunications administrations to achieve the maximum efficiencies and economics in network planning. Two major factors for achieving these efficiencies/economics are discussed: trunking with alternate routing capability and switching modernization through consolidation of mail switches or the use of remote switching modules.
The advantages of improved maintenance, call failure analysis and common channel signaling capabilities of SPC switching systems, such as AT&T's 5ESS digital switches, are described. An example of a software planning tool is also provided to show that the use of such tools is an invaluable asset in the design and implementation of a complex and evolving network.
