This talk introduces a new reconfigurable transceiver concept for use in mobile radio basestations. A worldwide usable mobile communication system must serve different frequency bands and standards (UMTS, IS-95, GSM). This leads to a reconfigurable transceiver design. For a single carrier transceiver the direct conversion approach offers several advantages over other designs. Until now direct conversion is typically used in mobile phones and not in basestations. The talk discusses the demands from different standards and presents a universal design for transmitter and receiver. It points out benefits and difficulties of the design. Finally some measurement graphs and test results of the hardware demonstrator are presented.
