E-Beam Deposition of Heavy Metal Fluoride Glass Films

Films of multi-component ZrF sub 4-based heavy metal fluoride glass, up to 10 microns in thickness, have been deposited on a variety of substrate materials by using by using an e-beam technique. The films are glassy in nature and are resistant to attack by atmospheric moisture. The films have been characterized by optical and thermo-analytical techniques.
