This paper discusses the possibility of using linear accelerators as picosecond synchrotron radiation sources. Calculations presented show that current linear accelerators will exceed the spectral brilliance of existing storage rings although at a much lower total flux while producing 3 picosecond long pulses at a repetiton rate of 360 pulses per second.
