Performance Modeling for Virtual Circuit Data Networks
12 March 1990
Network design and performance analysis tools that emphasize private-line, polled, multidrop circuits and backbone networks with datagram routing are often inadequate for designing Virtual Circuit Data Networks (VCDNs) to end-to-end application response time constraints. VCDNs typically consist of a backbone network with point-to-point and/or multipoint access lines, and can support a mixture of synchronous (e.g., SNA /SDLC, BSC) and asynchronous end-to-end protocols.
