Processing of Ferrites
01 January 1985
The science and technology of ferrite processing have been evolving, more like a step function, over the past thirty years. And the needs of applications engineers for increasingly versatile and cost effective magnetic materials have been met. In more recent years, superior quality ferrites with optimized properties have been produced for building high frequency switching power supplies, wear resistant recording heads, wide band transformers for pulse code modulation, and miniature inductors in complex shapes. Each of these applications has its own special needs with respect to magnetic material. In this talk, we will first develop an overall outline for processing soft ferrites, then examine a few historic high points in the realm of ferrite processing, and finally review some of the recent advances made in power preparation, additives, and sintering and microstructure control which have resulted in appropriate materials for today's application.
