HASKELL By spacing a wire a n d its m a t e closer t h a n has been the usual custom, and t h u s o b t a i n i n g a greater separation between pairs on open wire telephone lines, inductive interference can be diminished a n d higher carrier frequencies t r a n s m i t t e d , t h u s increasing the message carrying capacity. T h e hazard of the wires swinging i n t o c o n t a c t in t h e wind is controlling in t h e selection of a m i n i m u m spacing. T h i s article gives the results of studies m a d e to d e t e r m i n e t h e effect of n a t u r a l winds on variously spaced a n d arranged wires suspended in accordance with telephone practice.
