Sup 13 C Solid State NMR Studies of Poly(Ethylene Oxide)/Isotactic Poly(Methyl Methacrylate) Blends: Molecular Weight Effect

New Image

The influence of the configurations of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) in its blends with poly(ethylene oxide) (PCE) has been considered recently (1,2). Although vibrational spectroscopy suggested (3) that isotactic PMMA would be more miscible than syndiotactic, studies by small angle X-ray scattering and DSC have shown that blends with syndiotactic PMMA are compatible in the amorphous and melt state but those with isotactic are immiscible. However, only limited molecular weights and with wide distributions have been used. This suggests the need of an analysis of the influence of molecular weight of the amorphous component on the miscibility of these blends in a wide range of compositions.
