It is well-known that exploiting a simulation-based approach is a suitable and reliable way to build CAD systems for test generation (Agrawal and Cheng, 1987). However, it is also well-known that utilization of such techniques can be computationally very expensive (Singh, 1987). This conflict has led to the fruitful synergy between AI and CAD: the combined interaction produced a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual contributions. For example, the heuristic search and logic programming techniques have been applied to the test vectors generation (Srinivas, 1987). In our paper we extend this merger to other areas of AI and CAD. First we examine some CAD methods which are useful in AI (expert systems, specifically), and then we inspect certain AI techniques that are advantageous in CAD.
