In the past ten years, the cost and size of software development have grown substantially. Control of large-scale software projects becomes even more difficult. Therefore, there is a need to establish well-organized processes to manage software development projects more effectively. Generally, a software development project can be divided into three stages: front-end planning, product design and product deployment. For large-scale software projects, a Systems Engineering organization should be established to handle the Front-End Planning (FEP) stage. This talk will cover only the FEP stage. The objective for having a FEP process is to control the cost of and provide the quality of software development. This talk will describe the FEP process in terms of three phases: Market Analysis, Product Definition and Product Planning
