Technology Advances in Wideband Packet Switching
01 January 1988
Wideband Packet Switches capable of switching packetized voice, data, and digitized video signals were described at the International Switching Symposium i 1987. This paper examines the impact of the recent advances in electronic technologies on the continued evolution of Wideband Packet Technology (WPT). The advances include continued migration of the Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) technology from its research phase into a development period, despite the negative views held by some industry observers on its long-term commercial viability.
