This paper describes the telephonic arrangements at the Gare St. Lazare, at Paris, for linking up the various sections of the State Railway system. The State Railway Administration is considered by the Postal Administration as an ordinary subscriber and by payment of a supplementary fee a member of the public may obtain access to any particular part of the railway network. Such an arrangement calls for different types of equipment in accordance with the facilities allowed, and the paper describes with diagrams the automatic methods of handling the various classes of call.
