The AT&T Analytical Laboratory Information Management System at Allentown
23 June 1987
The AT&T Allentown analytical facility is unique in many respects. The samples analyzed range from routine process monitoring to leading edge semiconductor development and from raw material inspection to water and gas analysis. Our laboratory information management system, a modified Perkin-Elmer LIMS 2000 systems, handles over 20K samples per year. We have added many features which make the system more powerful: sample labels with optional barcode; automatic sample entry; color, graphic and letter quality printers; and automatic report generation. Also, with the large database, reports on laboratory through-put and work loads can be generated and used by the laboratory's management to properly allocate resources. In this report, we will discuss our LIMS system, its modifications, the various management reports and their use, current problems, and future enhancements.
