The Effect of Hydrogen on the Si(111) Surface Studied by UHV TEM
28 November 1988
The structural relaxation of the 7 x 7 reconstructed Si(111) surface as a function of H sub 2 and H adsorption has been investigated using in-situ ultrahigh-vacuum transmission electron microscopy. The changes in surface structure are quantifiable because the diffraction of 100 keV electrons from monolayers is simply interpretable with kinematical scattering theory, as demonstrated by Takavayanagi at al for the clean 7 x 7 surface.
