The First Coherent ReceiverWith Heterogeneously Integrated III-V On Silicon Tunable Local Oscillator Operating At 28GBd Data Rates

We demonstrated the first coherent receiver with III-V on silicon monolithic integrated local oscillator. It shows clean QPSK constellation at 28 GBd with 1.7 10-4 BER, and a design shrink to 2mm x 1.5mm. The local oscillator presents 45 nm tuning range based on thermo-optical Vernier filter. The compactness of the rings ensures reduced power consumption at 200mW to reach the whole tuning range. The local oscillator shows 150 kHz linewidth at 1mW output power, which corresponds to the coherent detection requirements.
