Through a Glass Clearly: Polymer Coatings for Optical Fibers
21 January 1987
The optical fibers used in telecommunications cables frequently are coated with highly crosslinked UV curable acrylates. These coatings preserve fiber strength and prevent mocrobending losses. Since cables are designed for long term use, the coatings used on fibers must be environmentally stable. The selection and stabilization of UV curable acrylates for optical fiber coatings will be discussed.
