Understanding software productivity.

What affects software productivity and how do we improve it? This report examines the current state of the art in software productivity measurement. We describe a framework for understanding software productivity, some fundamentals of measurement, survey selected studies of software productivity, and challenges involved in measuring software productivity. We suggest an alternative to current approaches: construct, evaluate, and deploy a knowledge- based "software productivity system."
