This article describes AT&T's strategic direction and plans for a Unified Network Management Architecture (UNMA). AT&T's plans have been determined by three basic customer requirements: . To plan from the outset for the full range of capabilities that a complete network management system should have . To allow the integration (end-to-end management) of the existing multi- vendor array of network management products into a single comprehensive architecture, and . To interconnect a variety of vendors by basing the architecture on an international standard protocol.
