Choosing suppliers and allocating purchases among them are among the most important management decisions facing a firm. A central aspect of vendor choice is the extent of the supplier network. Industrial customers frequently make a tradeoff between the efficiency of having a limited number of suppliers and the risk which results from reliance on only a few suppliers.
