VLSI Implementation of a Neural Network Model

In order to obtain the full benefit of neural network algorithms, special purpose hardware must be built. This is a challenging task since the architectures of these networks are radically different from those of conventional processors. First experimental micro-electronic implementations are now just appearing. We describe here a CMOS VLSI chip implementing a connectionist neural network model.
