Wide-frequency-range tuned helical antennas and circuits
01 December 1953
The aerials discussed are helices a small fraction of a wavelength in diameter, excited to give most of their radiation polarized parallel to their axes. Information is given on the velocity of propagation, effective height, radiation resistance and losses. A helical ship aerial with variable tap for input and a variable short circuit at the base can be designed for a 100 : 1 bandwidth. A resonator with a helical inner conductor and variable short circuit had a tuning range of 50-3500Mc/s.
