Wideband Packet Access for Workstations: Integrated Voice/Data/Image Services on the UNIX(R) PC
01 January 1986
We report on exploratory work to connect the UNIX(R) Personal Computer (PC) - AT&T's 3B1 computer - as a multi-media workstation to an experimental Wideband Packet Network that supports integrated access and transport of data, image, and interactive voice. An experimental wideband packet network interface can support many simultaneous multi-media calls. The purpose of this work is to gain insight into multi-media network interfaces, including higher level capabilities; it would also demonstrate the strengths of the UNIX(R) operating system for integration of computation and communication.
