Advancement of Asian and Pacific Americans
Moving forward while cherishing our heritage
Our employee resource group name 4A stands for the Asian/Pacific American Association for Advancement. Our US-based group has an inspiring purpose; to share and educate people about the rich heritage, diverse cultures and valued traditions of our Asia-Pacific countries, as well as to advance the professional and personal development of our current and future members.
As a vibrant community, we aim to further the solidarity and protect the interests of colleagues of Asian, Asian American or Pacific Islander ancestry, while promoting closer ties with non-members and emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion to our company’s business success.
Inclusivity through knowledge building
4A is based in the US where, according to the 2020 United States Census, over 7% of the population identify as Asian-American alone. Our group is nevertheless open to Nokia employees of all origins (not just Asian-Pacific) around the world.
One of the activities we arrange is the Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month (AAHM), where guest speakers - both experts and business leaders - lead discussions around topics relevant to our personal development, our business and our cultural heritage in general. The theme of our 2024 month was “Advancing Leaders through Innovation”.
Solidarity through cooperation
We collaborate with both global and other US-based employee groups at Nokia, such as HISPA, ABLE, EQUAL!, StrongHer, LUNA, IDEAL and VALOR-USA, as well as with the local Nokia Chicago Technology Center.
We also co-sponsor the annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) - a collaborative effort between Nokia’s employee groups. Each year, the PDC serves to educate, energize and capitalize on the individual and collective strengths that we bring to our company.
