Nokia and Viettel modernize broadband network in Vietnam to drive better customer services and energy efficiency

  • Viettel’s fixed broadband subscribers in the Hanoi metro area will enjoy improved broadband availability and quality of experience.
  • Nokia’s IP solution will help Viettel simplify daily processes and boost the operational and energy efficiency of its network.

Hanoi, Vietnam – Nokia today announced that Viettel will deploy Nokia’s Broadband Network Gateway-Control User Plane Separation (BNG-CUPS) solution to modernize its fixed broadband network and enhance the subscriber experience in the Hanoi Metro area. As part of the agreement, Viettel will replace the existing legacy solution with Nokia’s BNG-CUPs solution to simplify its day-to-day operations for improved efficiencies.

Vietnam’s digital economy is growing rapidly, driven by e-commerce, fintech, and cloud adoption. The government’s National Digital Transformation strategy aims for the digital economy to account for 30% of GDP by 2030. This growth requires robust and reliable digital infrastructure, including broadband connectivity.

We are excited to collaborate with Nokia to modernize the fixed broadband network while streamlining our daily operations. The solution will also help us enhance the energy efficiency of our networks. We are confident that Nokia’s solution will enable us to further strengthen network availability and reliability,” said Nguyen Tran Quynh, Deputy Director of Technical Global Center at Viettel.

This is a milestone project for us as it marks the first deployment of BNG-CUPS in Vietnam. We are delighted that our BNG-CUPS solution will enable Viettel to modernize its fixed broadband network to advance towards a more reliable, energy-efficient and high-performing network,” said Kent Wong, Vice President and Head of IP Networks, Asia Pacific at Nokia.

Viettel’s deployment will use Nokia’s 7750 Service Router, powered by FP5 chipset which will reduce energy consumption by 75%. Nokia’s Network Services Platform will enable Viettel to simplify operations and respond quickly to evolving demands while the CUPS architecture will help Viettel separate the control plane from the user plane to allow flexible scaling and edge deployments.
