Nokia has a long history in developing video coding standards, contributing to key video compression technologies like Advanced Video Coding (AVC/h.264), High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/h.265), and Versatile Video Coding (VVC/h.266). These codecs are vital for enabling high-quality streaming, 4K/8K content, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Dolby Vision on devices like PCs and smart TVs, while also reducing power consumption.

Nokia video inventors’ research and standardization efforts have earned multiple major recognitions, including six Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards, achieved together with our standardization partners.
