Mikko Lavanti

Biography

Mikko Lavanti is the President for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region and serves as the Managing Director of Nokia's Regional Headquarters in Saudi Arabia. In this strategic leadership role, Mikko leads Nokia’s entire sales strategy across both network and mobile infrastructure segments in MEA, holding full profit and loss (P&L) responsibility and playing a pivotal role in one of the world's most dynamic and transformative markets.

With over 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, Mikko is known for his commitment to growth and innovation. His career has spanned several key global technology hubs, including Espoo, Silicon Valley, Munich, Shanghai, Istanbul and Dubai. Over the years, he has held several senior positions in sales, operations, and business development across leading companies, including Nokia, ADVA, and Coriant. His leadership has been marked by his ability to drive sales, boost financial performance, and improve operational efficiency, often guided by his motto: ‘If you are on time, you are late!’.

A respected and influential figure, Mikko is known not only for his strategic vision but also for his people-centric leadership style. His commitment to fostering inclusive and innovative work environments has earned him recognition as an inspiring leader who prioritizes employee engagement, satisfaction, and personal development. Mikko holds a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications from Helsinki University of Technology, with a minor in International Marketing and Business Strategy, equipping him with both technical skills and strategic insight. His contributions to the industry were recently recognized when he was included in the prestigious Forbes Middle East ‘Global Meets Local’ ranking for 2024, celebrating regional heads who have significantly impacted the economic transformation and global integration of the region.

Outside of his professional life, Mikko enjoys skiing and deeply appreciates the arts and sports. He likes concerts, musical theater, and opera, and is passionate about Formula 1 racing and hockey.

Currently based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Mikko is married, a proud father of five adult children and recently promoted to be a grandfather to Arlo. He skillfully balances a successful career with a rich and fulfilling personal life.
