Nokia in Finland
Nokia, with its headquarters located in Espoo, Finland, operates in approx. 120 countries. In addition to Espoo, there are two other sites in Finland: Oulu and Tampere. Finland is a key location for research, development and manufacturing. We are a community of 6000 people representing 68 nationalities. Established near the town of Tampere in 1865, Nokia has strong roots in Finland.
All three sites, located close to major technical universities, play a significant role in advanced technology development and in creating products and solutions for mobile networks as well as management systems. Finland also hosts Nokia Technologies which focuses on our licensing business, covering patent, brand and technology. In addition, Finland is a key location for Nokia Bell Labs with unrivalled track record of innovation - 9 Nobel prizes. Finland leads in Nokia patents by having Espoo, Oulu and Tampere in the TOP 3 sites of all Nokia filed patents globally in 2019!
Each site in Finland has its own focus area: Espoo is the end-to-end mobile solutions center; Oulu specializes in the radio technologies; and Tampere is the home of network management and leading SoC development.
Our global HQ is located in Espoo, where all Corporate Functions and majority of the Business Groups are represented. The strength of the Espoo campus is its long e2e experience and expertise on telecom. Nokia teams focus on mobile networks and cloud product development in general, on software business as well as on advanced radio and mobile networks research. Our Espoo campus is also known for its technical expertise from Research to Field Verification phases. Espoo site operates in active collaboration with Aalto University and the University of Helsinki.
Oulu is one of Nokia's key locations with over 40 years' experience. The site is a unique Radio research, development and manufacturing center in the world. Oulu area is one of the leading radio research hot spots globally. It uses the radio ecosystem in trialling the latest technologies and solutions with the customers. Current focus for Oulu site is 5G including e.g. 5GPP standardization, System-on-Chips, new 5G radio products HW and SW as well as verification and manufacturability. The site cooperates actively with the University of Oulu.
In Tampere, Nokia specializes in Network and Cloud operability with orchestration and services, next generation radio chip (SoC) design and video & codec development. Our Tampere site is also known for Bell Labs license contribution, Mission to Moon project participation and Internet of Things (in cooperation with Nokia Technologies). The teams in Tampere co-operate closely with the University of Tampere.
“I have always felt empowered and encouraged to develop myself and use my full potential in my working environment. It has always motivated me to learn more. But still the best part is our own strong culture which makes me feel as important part of Nokia family.”
“After university I wanted to work with chip development and with world-leading technology. At Nokia, I get to do both. I am part of a team doing specification and development work for highly efficient System on Chips (SoCs), that will be used in the next generation of 5G base stations, on the latest process technologies. I'm connected with many experts both here in Espoo and all around the world, so there's always something new to learn every day.”
“It is a pleasure to help build the technology that connects and revolutionizes the world. I work with hardware architecture design for future 5G products in the System on Chip (SoC) unit of Mobile Networks.”
“I was delighted to re-join Nokia after few years. The people, the company brand, the culture and working with the technology to connect the world are simply appealing to me. If you too would like to join Nokia, pls check our open possibilities!”
