Improving people’s lives with technology
The technology we provide connects people and things. It connects people to opportunities to improve their lives through access to education, enhanced healthcare, information and public services, market opportunities and more. It connects people to things and things to things creating more efficient and sustainable possibilities. The capabilities offered by 5G, Internet of Things, cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and analytics are immense. Connectivity has never been so important as now. Keeping people connected to their loved ones, to their work, and to the things they care about and each other is critical.
Helping keep people connected to each other.
Connecting schools in Kenya
Since 2018 we have been working with UNICEF Finland and UNICEF Kenya to build a multi-partner collaboration to bring internet connectivity and inclusive digital learning to Kenyan schools in rural and disadvantaged urban areas across the country. In September and October 2020, the first 10 schools across Kenya were successfully connected using Nokia Fixed Wireless Access solution.
Technology helps Indonesia make better healthcare decisions
Since 2018 Nokia has provided support to UNICEF Finland and UNICEF Indonesia for a mobile health program across Indonesia that has provided tremendous results in terms of basic healthcare. The data capacity and learnings created from the joint program have this year been focused on the challenges of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and its devastating effects.
Highlights in 2019
Technology provides tools to help resolve many social and environmental challenges we face today, but it needs the collective will of all stakeholders. Below are just a few examples of how we are playing our part in improving lives with the technology we provide for individuals, enterprises and civil society.
Connecting everyone and everything
Connectivity helps society interact, work, play and live better lives. It helps us interact with the world around us, with the planet, people and things.
They say data is king. Our IoT solutions help capture all kinds of important data, ensure it is managed securely and use it to generate insights that create value for enterprises, individuals and the planet.
Transformation in healthcare is being driven by technology -and will continue to shape the future of health in even more fascinating ways. IT and communications technology are enabling improved patient outcomes with connected healthcare.
Digital transformation is everywhere. In just a year we have seen enterprises using digital solutions to improve efficiency, eco-sustainability, health and safety, security and operations. Digital transformation is no longer just a buzzword, it’s a reality and is only set to grow.
The fourth industrial revolution is underway with the drive for connectivity everywhere, with everyone and everything connected. Businesses are ramping up their fixed and wireless connectivity, with 5G set to play an even greater role by bringing low latency and higher capacity. This in turn allows for more efficient and greater amounts of data handling, which when coupled with the new more powerful analytics means the world can take advantage of greater automation and find solutions that positively impact efficiency and productivity, which in turn drive improvements in daily life for people and the planet.
5G, the Internet of Things, Artificial intelligence and other key technology innovations are already beginning to deliver on the promise of enormous beneficial change in just about every area of human endeavor: healthcare, transport, communication, industry, public safety, utilities, agriculture, education, city living and entertainment. 5G will provide the engine for driving even greater benefits. The fourth industrial revolution will, just like its predecessors bring not only economic benefit but also social and ecological benefits.
