FAQ
Not everyone at home has the ability or means to have Ethernet or wired connections to their PC and/or gaming consoles. This tournament highlights the advancements in Wi-Fi technology, showcasing near-deterministic latency and performance that can rival LAN in many cases. While it won't replace Ethernet/LAN, it's about delivering high-quality gaming experiences, regardless of the connectivity type used.
Currently, Nokia WiFi devices are exclusively accessible through selected Internet/Service Providers; Nokia does not distribute this equipment through retail or directly to consumers.
We encourage consumers and gamers to contact their local Internet/Service Provider to inquire about Nokia residential gateways and devices. Additionally, during the event, we will provide a survey link where Nokia will collect interest from the gaming community and directly communicate it to the appropriate Internet/Service Provider.
While Nokia is not entering the gaming industry, we have been developing and researching technology that has provided significant improvements in gaming. This includes advanced queuing algorithms for customer premises equipment, ultra-low-latency protocols (such as L4S), Wi-Fi optimizations, video rendering frameworks, and much more.
Yes, the Nokia WiFi Beacons, provided to all the participants, has a special experimental containerized agent (developed by Nokia) that will auto-detect the Apex Legends gaming traffic (regardless if it’s on a PC, PS5, XBOX, etc) and provide automatic priority queuing against any other traffic going on in the home.
EA is an undisputed leader in the gaming industry and has been for many years. Nokia was interested in Apex legends because it has a rich pro circuit (ALGS) for Apex Legends. The event itself will include dozens of pro-players and content creators from around the world, many of which compete professionally in the ALGS circuit.
The winners will get to nominate a charity of their choice for a cash donation. For the best Hiding team*, each of the 3 players will get $5,000 donated to a charity of their choice. For the best Seeker* of the seeking team, $10,000 will be donated to a charity of their choice. Participants collect points in each of the 6 games that will be played, based on their placements (seekers versus hiders).
*In Apex Legends, the "seeker" is the player or team actively searching for opponents, while the "hiding team" refers to those who are avoiding direct confrontation by hiding or staying out of sight to gain a strategic advantage.
The event features 20 teams, each with 3 players, totaling 60 players. While we have many professional players and top Apex Legends content creators, we also wanted to provide a platform for up-and-coming content creators and streamers. Additionally, we have teams representing special segments of the population, including an aboriginal team from North America, an LGBTQ+ team from around the world, and even a team of randomly selected Nokia employees.
