Frequency-Domain Differential Phase Shift Keying (FD-DPSK) of Ultrafast Laser Pulses

The frequency-domain DPSK (differential-phase-shift-keying) method for ultrafast laser pulses has been demonstrated by using an AOM-based pulse shaping technique for modulation and the spectral interferometry for demodulation. The encoded differential phase profile is successfully retrieved despite nonlinear distortions associated with dispersion- shifted fiber transmission over 4-km. The achieved spectral efficiency is about 0.4 bit/s per Hz.
