Silica-Based Fiber Fabrication Short Course

This short course will focus on material properties and fabrication techniques for single mode and multimode silica-based fiber lightguides, with particular emphasis on the major large scale manufacturing methods for preparing precursor glass preforms, as well as the fiber drawing and coating step for high performance lightguides. Requirements to control the optical, dimensional and mechanical properties will be discussed.
