Nokia drives innovation in connected vehicles. Our patented inventions, including essential technologies for Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, are available for licensing, supporting the rapid advancements of wireless connectivity in cars globally. 

Millions of connected vehicles sold each year rely upon our technologies for a wide variety of applications. These include features such as real-time mapping, in-vehicle infotainment, software updates, and enhanced traffic safety through capabilities like vehicle-to-vehicle communication.  

As a founding member of the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), Nokia is dedicated to accelerating the development of new transportation solutions based on 5G, including advanced cellular V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technologies. These innovations are vital for the future of automated driving and the development of truly autonomous cars, contributing to a safer, more efficient smart transportation system.

Research shows consumers value wireless connectivity and are willing to pay more for vehicles that include connectivity features, such as in-vehicle infotainment, real-time mapping and real-time situational awareness. Going forward, new advanced technologies enabling telematics and automated driving will continue to transform the automotive industry.

The vast majority of connected cars in the market have a license for Nokia’s technology. 

Our patents are available for use in connected vehicles through our bilateral automotive licensing program. Additionally, our cellular SEPs are available both via our bilateral licensing program and via the Avanci licensing pool.

We support the licensing of standardized technologies on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. We license our SEPs in accordance with our licensing principles and FRAND terms.
