Metro-edge solutions
Bringing scale and efficiency to the metro edge
Optimized end-to-end optical networking solutions for metro and edge applications
New services and applications, along with increased fiberization to the home and office, are driving significant increases in optical network capacity to the metro edge. Widespread deployment of 5G services and increased deployment of xPON systems drive increases in broadband access speeds and resulting backhaul capacity, while Enterprise networks and business services continue to see increases in bandwidth and interface speeds.
Complementing that, new applications like edge computing and analytics, and AI/machine learning will drive further increases in bandwidth required to the metro edge and for data center interconnection (DCI).
Network operators that provide connectivity to the metro edge require optical networking solutions that are optimized to the specific and diverse needs of metro and edge applications, while also ensuring seamless end-to-end networking across their networks. Key requirements include the following:
Benefits and features
Optical Transport
with scale and performance optimized for metro applications
Multi-Service
to serve a wide range of interface speeds and service types, including Ethernet, Carrier Ethernet, Fibre Channel, OTN and wavelengths
Optimized Platforms
in compact form factors able to operate in telco or customer premises, and indoor or outdoor installations
End-to-end networking
with efficient integration into end-to-end networks enabling common operations, services, security, automation, and hardware/software
Optical networking solutions optimized for the metro edge
