Nokia IS-IS Routing Protocol

Course number: OP00060
Course duration: 3 days
Price: €2,400

Course overview

This course examines the operation and use of the standards-based Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) routing protocol. The course begins with a review of IP routing and the different methods available to populate the routing table. It briefly covers static routing and covers the IS-IS routing protocol in detail. It also covers concepts such as route redistribution, route filtering, equal-cost multipath (ECMP) routing, bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD), and IP fast re-route based on loop-free alternative (LFA) paths. Configuration of both IPv4 and IPv6 routing is included. All use cases and lab exercises are based on the model-driven command-line interface (MD-CLI). Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the operation of IS-IS and be able to configure and verify complex networks using the IS-IS protocol.

Course objectives

After completing the course, students should be able to:

  • Describe the Internet Protocol (IP) addressing and forwarding process
  • Explain the difference between static routing and dynamic routing protocols
  • Identify common interior and exterior routing protocols
  • Describe the benefits of equal-cost multipath routing (ECMP)
  • Describe route redistribution and route filtering
  • Explain the main characteristics of link state routing protocols
  • Explain the messages, adjacency states, and link state advertisements of IS-IS
  • List the steps required to configure IS-IS for IPv4 and IPv6
