Nokia Segment Routing
Course number: OP00085
Course duration: 4 days
Price: €3,600
Course overview
This course provides students with the essential knowledge required to deploy a network’s transport-tunnel infrastructure using segment routing. It examines segment routing concepts, terminology, and signaling through an enhanced link-state routing protocol, such as IS-IS and OSPF. The course discusses the control-plane and the data-plane behavior of the protocols. Configuration and signaling required to instantiate segment routing tunnels with traffic engineering (TE) constraints, such as explicit hops, admin groups, TE metric, shared-risk link groups and the maximum number of hops, are covered in detail. It also includes end-to-end and local tunnel resiliency approaches through secondary paths and fast re-route, respectively. The course will thoroughly assess the use of Flex-Algo as an alternative way to implement traffic engineering in a network that uses segment routing. All use cases and lab exercises are based on the model-driven command-line interface (MD-CLI).

Course objectives
After completing the course, students should be able to:
- Identify segment routing as a method to deploy the transport-tunnel infrastructure of a network
- Describe the concepts of segment, segment ID, and segment routing
- Explain the relationship between segment IDs and MPLS labels
- Describe how routing protocols (OSPF and IS-IS) have been extended to enable segment routing
- Identify the traffic-engineering constraints that can be imposed on a segment routing tunnel, also known as LSP
- List and explain the different options available to calculate a suitable path for a traffic-engineering-constrained segment routing tunnel
- Explain how a segment routing LSP can have one primary and one or more secondary paths associated with it
- Explain that when multiple paths are added to a given LSP, seamless Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) needs to be enabled for the LSP to detect path failures and trigger the switchover
- Describe Loop Free Alternate (LFA) paths and how they make fast re-route (FRR) possible
- Identify the different LFA types: standard LFA, remote LFA, directed LFA, and topology independent LFA
- Identify flexible algorithms (flex-algo) as an alternative way to implement traffic engineering in a network that uses segment routing
