New York Climate Week

No green without digital

Climate Week NYC and UN General Assembly

Nokia was proud to be at Climate Week NYC from September 22-29, 2024. Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together over 600 events and activities across the City of New York – in person, hybrid and online. Climate Week NYC is hosted by Climate Group, an international non-profit. The event takes place every year in partnership with the United Nations General Assembly and is run in coordination with the United Nations and the City of New York.

Networks play a critical role in realizing the full potential of digital and driving climate action

Networking technologies such as digital twins, low latency connectivity, analytics and AI can help hard-to-abate sectors find ways to accelerate sustainability efforts. Digitalization can play a role in supporting all industries on their decarbonization journey. At the same time, to ensure the benefits of digitalization continue to outweigh the climate impacts of digital infrastructure, the digital industry must also continually reduce its own footprint.

Ultimately, there is no green without digital and we see networks as being key to driving sustainability for three key reasons:

Ensuring digital resilience

Our world was built for a different climate. Digital can make us more resilient. Networks and digital technologies can make communities, companies and countries more resilient.

Enabling digital transformation

The world needs to move to a low-carbon economy. Networks and digital technologies can help industry transform and decarbonize. By supporting industry’s transformation toward sustainable business models, digital also helps industry get into gear for growth.

Driving digital equity

AI is reshaping the world around us. We can turn AI from a risk to an opportunity. Digital equity can drive positive progress, allowing everyone to harness AI for innovation, growth and sustainability.

At Nokia, we create technology that helps the world act together

By leveraging digital technology, businesses, industries, and society can create a more productive, sustainable, and accessible future. However, maximizing the opportunity of digital cannot be achieved alone.

At Nokia we believe that to create the digital services and applications of the future, businesses, technologies and innovators must act together to build on each other’s expertise.

We create technology that helps the world’s organizations, machines and devices act in sync with each other and the people they serve, because that’s when real transformation happens.

Collective action is required

We work with a range of stakeholders and look for where we can increase collaboration and respond to requirements in building sustainable solutions.

Collaboration is key to moving the needle on many sustainability topics – from protecting the environment to bridging the digital divide. In that spirit, Nokia will be present at a series of events during Climate Week.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of some of these events.
