15-Spatial-mode photonic lanterns based on ultrafast laser inscription

We demonstrated a 15-spatial-mode photonic lantern fabricated with the ultrafast laser inscription technique. The fabricated device showed ;6.5-7 dB insertion loss (IL) and ;8-dB mode dependent loss. It enables 30 modes (15 spatial and 2 polarizations) multiplexing across the C-band.
