A low crosstalk 4x4 LiNbO3 optical switch array with permanently attached single polarization fiber arrays.

A 4x4 crossbar optical switch array consisting of 16 directional couplers is described. The device had an average insertion loss of 6dB. Fourteen of the couplers had crosstalk levels of = -35dB while the remaining two had -25dB levels. The inputs to the device are permanently attached to four laser transmitters (1207A) using lensed polarization maintaining fiber at the laser end and an array of polarization maintaining fibers at the device end.
