A Virtual Environment for Designing User Interface Prototypes
01 January 2008
Teaching and learning in a virtual world presents a variety of challenges and benefits for computer science students, especially when designing user interfaces that support accessibility requirements. An online usability and interaction course blended collaborative tools and weekly meetings within Second Life (R) during the design of the three user interface prototypes. This paper presents the experiences and the challenges that they faced while designing a newsstand for hearing-impaired users, an interactive voting machine and refrigerator for users in wheelchairs.
