This talk explores various applications of artificial intelligence techniques in the field of reliability. Some of their advantages and disadvantages are examined in a fairly general context and by specific examples. An attempt at predicting the future directions of this potential AI application is made as a "straw proposal" to invite contrary viewpoints and general discussion of the issues. Emphasis is placed on the questions to be asked rather than the answers.
