In interactive software design more emphasis is being placed on the user interface because of users demands for more usable systems. Principles for designing usable systems are discussed, and the principle of empirical evaluation is demonstrated by an experimental design to evaluate human-computer interaction. Communication from the computer is called feedback and is useful for guiding users to commands and for letting them know whether the commands are accepted and performed or whether an error has occurred.
