When considering the purchase of telecommunications equipment or services, businesses are increasingly interested in so-called "intelligent" networks because of the advantages they provide. In addition to more features and better information available to the network user, intelligent networks have a major advantage in making available to their users a greater ability to control the network themselves and tailor its operation to their needs. Implementation of an "intelligent" network can be done in several ways, but the most flexible and feature-rich implementations are based upon centralized databases, which are included as separate network elements.
