Engineering large SONET/SDH management networks

Unless properly engineered, network management of large SONET/SDH networks can severely stress the embedded data communications network, resulting in less responsive communication between the network manager and network elements. At worst, this stress can cause severe operations network instabilities. We explore the types of demands large networks place on the SONET/SDH operations network, as well as ways to make the operations network more robust.
