Evolving Network Services Applications of SS7 Signaling
01 January 1989
With the 1984 divestiture of AT&T, the corporate communications scene in the U.S. changed drastically. Long distance services are being provided by hundreds of Interexchange Carriers (ICs). Seven Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOC) and a number of Independent Operating Companies (IOCs) offer a range of local services within their operating regions and networks. A variety of private corporate network services are being offered both by the ICs and RBOCs. Enhanced Service Providers are targeting specialty services to their customers. On top of it all, customers are installing their own Private Automated Branch Exchanges (PABXs) and T1 based networks. The networking solutions which accommodate these diverse arrangements must be flexible, reliable, and transparent, and should incorporate public and private facilities, and multi-media transport capabilities.
