Experimental and numerical results of optical subpulse formation of long optical pulses in monomode fibers.

Using a mode-locked Nd:Yag laser with a pulse width of ~ 100 ps, we find that a broad temporal pulse undergoes a transition to a train-like formation of subpulses when propagating through a dispersive and dissipative monomode optical fiber. This process does not require an additional optical seed pulse nor noise from spontaneous emission.
