Experimental comparison of the bandwidths of standard and dispersion- shifted fibers near their 'Zero-Dispersion' wavelengths.

We have used an interferometric technique to measure first and second- order dispersion of a particular type of dispersion- shifted fiber. The values of beta(dot dot) and beta(dot dot dot) near the dispersion minimum are substantially the same as those of a conventional fiber except for being shifted from the 1.3 microns to the 1.5 microns wavelength range. We discuss the implications of this observation on the bandwidth of dispersion-shifted fibers.
